Someone who is unpredictable in their responses.
Someone who can change a difficult situation into a winning position
Someone you can’t put in a box
Are you a game changer or one who follows the same process as everyone else?
There’s plenty of examples of game changers in sports
In the match between the All Blacks vs England the game was ripped wide open by one player on the All Blacks. His name Beauden Barrett.
His reaction to difficult situations in the game were hard to predict therefore difficult to defend. The result he turned the game around. In fact both coaches agreed he was the difference.
He was the difference, typically these players offer The X Factor.
In the NFL Australian AFL punters have carved a reputation for game changers because of what they do when punting the ball. In fact it’s also what they do after the ball has been punted which is a nightmare for opposition coaches to develop a plan to counter, there’s no playbook for Aussie punters.
So how do you know if you need to change?
Do you routinely experience the same objections?
Have your numbers around call to meeting to closed deals been pretty much the same?
If you’ve answered yes then you need to consider seriously looking at changing something.
So what makes a game changer in sales?
Unfortunately most salespeople are taught exactly the same sales processes and scripts as their competition.
This is what makes them predictable. What they don’t realise is the top salesperson they look to copy, don’t follow the same scripts they’re taught. There are also other factors at play.
If you want to be a game changer in sales the first thing you have to do is to learn new strategies, different ideas and be willing to experiment.
Here’s the real difference
Begin to understand the psychology of what makes people tick maybe yourself included ?
You’ll soon realise that many of the processes and scripts you’ve learnt were probably good 15 years ago.
You have two choices.
1. Keep learning the same things as your competition
2. Evolve your game and new innovative ideas
A great lesson to learn from professional sports is from one season to the next, teams continually evolve their game. They know if they do what helped them win last season it won’t keep them winning in the new season.
What got you there will keep you there.
Now if you’re a salesperson who wants to be different and you’re open to change then the first step is to decide “Is it time to make a stand and change?”
