The Power of Affirmations

I’ve talked about the importance of changing your negative beliefs. They serve no function besides holding you back and making it very hard to succeed.
The good news is that there are many things you can do to get rid of your negative beliefs and the resulting negative self-talk.
As you might recall, I mentioned the work we do in training sales people, specifically the techniques we teach to change their mindset for the better.

Among those techniques, affirmations are probably the most powerful.
These are positive sentences you repeat out loud. The goal is to force your brain to rewire and start thinking more positively.
If you repeat them enough times, the affirmations will get stuck in your head. After a while, you’ll start to believe them.

Remember how parents warn their young children against watching horror movies before bed? They might have nightmares if they do that.
When you go to sleep, the brain keeps processing the last pieces of information it received. If you were watching horror movies, you might get nightmares.

Affirmations work the same way, but with a positive spin. If you keep validating yourself before bedtime, you’ll be planting those positive thoughts into your subconsciousness. And that’s where your beliefs reside. In essence, you’ll be burying your negative beliefs under all the positive affirmations.
In the next post, I’ll show you some practical examples of affirmations you can use to change your perspective of the sales process.
