Staying Motivated in Sales – Use These Two Success Secrets from Simone Biles

The most amazing athletes in the world can provide some interesting insight for salespeople. Many of the techniques they use cross over to the sales sphere.

There are few athletes who are more amazing than Simone Biles.

By the time she was 19 years old, she’s already earned 10 gold medals in competitive gymnastics.

And she can provide some invaluable advice that you may not expect from someone who’s so young.

Secret #1 – You Must Focus on the Mental Side

Even the most skilled salesperson in the world will struggle if they don’t have the right mentality.

Biles says this is an issue in gymnastics as well. In fact, she points to mental preparation as being extremely important:

“There’s a lot that goes into our mental preparation. We’re mainly working on consistency, precision, and confidence.”

In regards to sales, confidence may be the most important of those three. If you’re not confident in yourself and your product, you can’t expect a customer to trust you.

They can tell that you don’t really believe what you’re saying. And once you lose that trust, it’s almost impossible to make the sale.

Confidence comes, in part, from honing your sales techniques. However, it also requires you to maintain positive behaviours so that your work doesn’t grind you down.

Secret #2 – Find a Great Mentor

No matter how hard you work on changing your behaviours, your motivation may still start to wane.

That’s when the support of somebody else proves invaluable. As Simone says:

“It’s very important to me to know that my coach, Aimee Boorman, believes in me as much as I believe in myself.”

A great mentor can reaffirm your self-belief when doubt starts to creep into your mind. And of course, they can offer guidance whenever you encounter a situation that you’re not familiar with.
