But that doesn’t mean that you can’t learn from and feel inspired by successful people. Furthermore, those who’ve achieved great things have habits that are certainly worth adopting.

Indra Nooyi has definitely achieved great things.

A director of Amazon and former CEO of PepsiCo, she’s often ranked as one of the world’s top 100 powerful women.

These are the habits that salespeople can learn from her.

Habit #1 – Imagine a Better You

As a child, Nooyi would play an interesting game with her family.

Each evening, her mother would ask her to imagine that she was the Prime Minister or President of a country. 

What would you do in that position? 

The point of this exercise is to show you that anything’s possible. Nooyi says that this game of make-believe became a habit for her. It instilled within her the belief that she could be anything that she wanted to be.

She just had to envision it for herself.

Never underestimate the power of self-belief. Your sales efforts start to suffer when doubt clouds your mind. This little habit can help you to gain new perspectives and reaffirms the fact that anything’s possible.

Habit #2 – Think Like a Customer

How much do you research a product that you’re trying to sell?

Nooyi doesn’t just read from a list of benefits. She puts herself in the shoes of the customer and carefully considers the pros and cons of a product.

Nooyi takes photos of and critiques every product that lands on her desk.

She considers herself a gatekeeper between her company and the customer.

By thinking like a customer, she develops a better understanding of what they want from the product.
