Are you sacrificing your sales instincts at the altar of technology?

During my recent training session with agents in Auckland, I discussed a rising trend that challenges all sales professionals: over-reliance on AI and tech tools.

While technology offers amazing support, it’s easy to let our natural awareness and ability to read the room fade into the background.

Real sales growth still requires situational and spatial awareness; skills honed through practice, not just apps.

Remember those days before sat nav and spell check, when we had to trust our own judgment and memory? In sales, those same awareness skills are critical. By the way, comprehension skills are also on the decline.

Being aware and being able to respond are totally different skill sets; they both need each other. If you are starting to lose your awareness, then how will you respond in the moment when it matters?

It’s like expecting Roger Federer to play tennis without spatial awareness.

If we constantly depend on AI to do the thinking for us, we risk dulling our instincts, missing signals, failing to observe, and losing our edge.

Our instincts are created through experiences where we use both the rational and the emotional brain to make decisions. Do you really want to decrease your brain power and walk towards sameness with everyone else?

There’s an old saying: “Neurons that fire together, wire together.” You risk reducing the number of neurons firing in your brain once they stop working. Guess what happens then?

Let’s talk: Have you noticed your own awareness changing with more technology in your sales process?

What’s your experience?
