The 4 Bad Sales Habits (That You Need to Break Right Now)

Some people think that you need to be born with certain talents to be great at sales. Luckily, this isn’t true.

Like most things in life, this is something that you can learn if you put in the time and effort.

While you’re at it, there are bad habits that you’ll want to avoid. Here are 4 of them:

1. Being Generic

Many salespeople fall into the trap of having the same sales pitch. Sure, they might switch it up here and there, but it’s always the same thing in a nutshell.

This is something that can kill your career as a salesperson. If you really want to sell, you need to be adaptable and give your prospects a personalised experience.

2. Selling to Everyone

This is especially important when selling services. Many salespeople make the mistake of taking in clients that aren’t the right fit. They either do it for the money or they just don’t know how to say “no”.

This can create a bad reputation as you can’t provide good services to incompatible clients.

3. Not Having Goals

I’m not talking about commission tiers or sales quotas.

You need to have personal goals that will translate into a better professional life. Nobody can set this for you, so think about what you want to achieve.

4. Not Taking Advantage of Online Opportunities

Email is a great sales tool but it’s not everything. If all you do is sending out hundreds of emails with more or less the same structure, you might want to think about a different approach.

Write a blog post, focus on social media, or find another way to simplify the process of reaching out to your prospects.

These are far from the only mistakes that salespeople make. I can show you so much more about becoming better at sales.
