Pressure is an inevitable companion in high-stakes situations, whether you’re on the court competing in tennis, or a meeting closing a big deal or dealing with an objection.
In my latest video, I explore three powerful techniques designed to help sales professionals elevate their mental game and perform at their best when the stakes are high:
𝟏. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠
Breathing is a simple yet profound tool applicable in both sports and sales. By consciously slowing your breath, you activate your body’s relaxation response, which can help clear your mind and steady your nerves. In sales, this technique can be invaluable during tense negotiations or high-pressure presentations, allowing you to stay calm and focused.
Step 1: All it takes is 5 seconds to clear the tension with a deep breath in through the nose.
𝟐. 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤
What we say to ourselves in moments of stress matters, whether on the court or in a sales pitch. Replacing self-doubt with constructive affirmations reinforces confidence and builds mental resilience. For instance, as a salesperson, repeating phrases like “I am prepared and capable” or “I bring value to this conversation” can help you maintain focus and clarity.
Step 2: Breath out through the mouth and say to yourself, ”Reset”.
𝟑. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠
The present is where peak performance thrives. I emphasise techniques that help individuals stay locked into the ‘now,’ whether it’s grounding exercises for tennis players or maintaining presence in a critical sales call.
As a specialist in high performance and psychology in selling, my goal is to empower sales professionals to succeed both mentally and strategically. Just as tennis is a battle of the mind as much as skill, sales requires the same mastery of composure, self-awareness, and mental resilience to build relationships and close deals effectively.
Step 3: Say one thing, “Let’s go!”
